Description Need vitality, joy and stress relief? Try the mindful practice of Hatha Yoga. Become more centered and focused through breath work; cultivate flexibility, strength and deep relaxation. Held in the gardens, weather permitting, or at an indoor location with a garden view. Wear comfortable clothing. Bring a mat, pillow and your sense of inquisitiveness. Beginners to experts welcome.

Gentle Chair Yoga

Description

Chair yoga adapts traditional yoga poses so that they can be done with a chair for support, making yoga accessible for everyone. Learn breathing and relaxation techniques, increase our flexibility and strength, and improve your balance and circulation. Your body and mind are really going to appreciate this class. all are welcome. A great program for seniors. Wear loose comfortable clothing.

Potluck with your Pooch

Spring has sprung! Enjoy an early spring afternoon hike with your dog looking for spring wildflowers along the way. We will finish with a potluck dinner in the shelter house with a warm fire. Please bring a dish to share.  Hot beverages provided.

Senior Horticulture Group

Description

Older adults interested in plants, nature, good health and making new friends are encouraged to join this wellness group. Gatherings, scheduled for the third Wednesday of each month, offer discussion and a related activity. Light refreshments are served.

This quarter's topics include:

March 20 -- Herbal Teas from Your Garden -- Learn to make simple, delicious teas, and sample the results with Karen Kennedy of the American Herb Society.

April 17 -- Virtual Tour of Little Mountain -- Take an armchair tour of Little Mountain, it's natural and human history with experienced Holden guide Pat Biliter.

May 15 -- Rhododendrons and Lake County -- Local gardener Annette Pizzino will fill us in on the importance of Northeast Ohio for rhododendrons and lead a guided tram tour of the Helen S. Layer Rhododendron Garden.

Wine and Cheese Night Hike

Description Springtime is perfect for a guided night hike along Holden's diverse woodland trails – frogs singing, owls calling, and bats flying. Enjoy a variety of wines, non-alcoholic beverages, fresh fruit and gourmet cheeses after the hike. This is a rain or shine event so dress for the weather and wear appropriate hiking shoes These hikes fill quickly – prompt registration is suggested. Adults only.

Audubon Bird Walks

Description

Held in conjunction with the Cleveland Audubon Society and other organizations, these early morning bird walks depart promptly at 7:30am from the Warren H. Corning Visitor Center. Bring binoculars and a field guide.

 

Celebrate Rhododendron Colors in Silk

Description

Capture the beauty of soft pastels and fiery warm colors that rhododendrons and azaleas are known for in shimmering hand-painted silk using a resist method and water-based dyes that flow like watercolor. Play with the patterns and shapes found in these plants and any others nearby to release your inner artist as you create two painted silks, either 12" x 60" or 26" square. Learn brush control, color mixing, shading and a bit of history in the process. Advanced students can make one large silk. No experience necessary. Bring a brown bag lunch. Please dress for the weather as the first hour of the class will be spent visiting the rhododendron garden for inspiration.

Join photographer and writer Ian Adams, author of A Photographer's Guide to Ohio and 18 other photography books, for an in-depth, weekend workshop designed to help beginners and intermediate photographers take beautiful landscape and close-up photographs of Ohio’s most picturesque places with your digital point-and-shoot or SLR camera. You’ll learn the most important digital camera features and settings, how to take sharp, well-composed pictures, the best lighting for scenic and close-up photography, and tips for finding and photographing Ohio’s best scenic vistas, natural areas, waterfalls, public gardens, historic barns and bridges, rural areas, landmark buildings and town murals. Join Adams for a photo shoot in the gardens and woodlands at Holden, a review/critique of your photos, and tips for fine-tuning and sharing your digital photos, using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.
