Instructor |
Steve Krebs, Ph.D. |

Cost |

|
Description |
Every spring at the Leach Research Station thousands of blooming plants in breeding populations reveal their true colors and are judged on their merits. Come out and help Steve Krebs, the station's director, choose which rhododendron seedlings might have a future in our gardens. In addition, learn how to choose parent plants for hybridizing, practice making your own cross pollinations, and develop an eye for what makes a superior plant. Warning: this activity may be contagious, but that's not a bad thing. Many varieties of ornamental plants have their origins in the backyards of hobby hybridizers. Each participant will receive several species azalea seedlings to grow at home in order make first-hand observations of variability over time. |
